Senior Coastsiders and the Coastside Adult Day Health Center are joining forces to build the Coastside Adult Community Center, a new building to house the current and expanded offerings of both organizations.

The building, as depicted in architectural drawings, will be located on the corner of Main Street and Arnold Way in Half Moon Bay.

The total cost of the project is approximately $7 million, which will cover construction, furnishings and a fund for continued maintenance.

Groundbreaking is expected in 2007, and the building is expected to open in 2008.

Offerings
The building will offer distinct spaces for classes, computer work, coffee, cards and crafts, as well as private rooms for therapy, physical exams, treatments, and counseling. It will have a spacious kitchen, with daily lunch and Saturday breakfast served in the large assembly hall. This hall will also allow for lectures, dancing, movies, exercise, as well as community meetings, parties and events.

In addition, the building will be used for extended day care, adult day health care, Alzheimer’s care, occupational/physical/speech therapies, social services, recreational activities, home health care and hospice services.

Location

The building will be located on the corner of Main Street and Arnold Way in Half Moon Bay, where Senior Coastsiders and the Coastside Adult Day Health Center have purchased a 1.4-acre lot. The land is vacant and is located on the east side of Highway 1 in a planning zone that allows for this use.

The site is strategically located near three senior housing complexes. The new 61-unit Lesley Gardens facility is directly adjacent to the property. Ocean View Plaza and Robinhood Lodge, with 60 and 70 units respectively, are both within a few blocks. The new building will be the nucleus for our senior community by offering many levels of care, counseling and entertainment right in their own neighborhood.

The plans for the 23,000 square-foot building are based on extensive research on the needs of the community.

Momentum
There is already a great deal of momentum and public backing for this building.

Research has revealed strong community support for this project. A good site was selected, on land that will not require any zoning variances. Senior Coastsiders and the Coastside Adult Day Health Center own the land. They have completed architectural work. The Half Moon Bay City Council has passed a resolution supporting the project.

To date, more than $4.5 million of the $7 million needed funds have been committed.
